Christine Hilberg was minding her own business, driving along in Southern California, when she noticed a homeless man with a pup who looked in need of medical attention. That pup was Puka, and Hilberg's friend, Roxy, convinced the homeless man to let the two women make sure that the pooch was alright.
His cleft lip was what made her think he might need a trip to the vet. But it's only a cosmetic flaw.
If you could even call it that...I think it's pretty cute!
But Puka isn't the only rescue in this household...
Rocket Larry the tortoise, named after Larry David, has become Puka's best friend.
Larry was rescued, too, from a reptile hoarder who'd posted about him on Craigslist.
Clearly, these two are very happy in their new home.
Holidays are fun times for them...
As their mom, a photographer, likes to put them in matching outfits and share the images to raise awareness for pet adoption.
Sharing the special bonds that pets can have with each other and their humans reminds people of all the loving babes out there without homes.
After the official Instagram account shared a photo of these two...
They caught the attention of the public with their sweet smiles.
Now, with almost 19,000 followers, they won't just be sharing birthdays with each other...
They'll be celebrating with all of their fans and supporters!
But they've got plenty of downtime, too...
And Puka can get very protective of his reptilian bestie!
Be sure to follow their mom's account for more of this adorableness!
